STATESWEST SHUTS DOWN AIRLINE OPERATION

PHOENIX, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- StatesWest Airlines Inc. announced it will cease operations as of 12 midnight on Friday, Oct. 8. StatesWest has been operating under the protection of the bankruptcy laws since Dec. 15, 1992.
Rudy R. Miller, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "The decision was made by the Board of Directors on Thursday when negotiations for new code sharing relationships to replace the USAir code share scheduled to expire Jan. 15, 1994, fell through. The board determined the carrier could no longer operate with an expectation of successfully reorganizing."
StatesWest timed the closure to minimize passenger disruption and has attempted to work with USAir, Beech Acceptance Corp. and federal regulatory agencies to make the closure orderly and in compliance with StatesWest's contractual and regulatory responsibilities.
