STATESWEST REPORTS STRONG MAY LOAD FACTOR
PHOENIX, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- StatesWest Airlines Inc. reported

May 1992 passenger enplanements were down 2.7 percent to 28,035, compared to 28,801 for May 1991. The carrier's May 1992 traffic capacity was 8,905,601 available seat miles (ASM) producing a load factor of 44.4 percent. ASMs for May 1991 totaled 16,380,414 producing a load factor for that period of 34.2 percent. Revenue passenger miles (RPM) for May 1992 totaled 3,953,971, a decrease of 29.4 percent compared to 5,601,732 for May 1992.
Rudy R. Miller, StatesWest's chairman, president and chief executive officer said, "Load factor was strong this May over last year for the same period. Passenger boardings were near the same level as May of 1991. Taking into account the airline's downsizing of the larger de Havilland Dash-8 aircraft to smaller Beech equipment and two less planes in the fleet, we are very pleased with our operating results in May 1992. The decrease in available seat miles and revenue passenger miles is directly attributed to the fleet reorganization program."
Miller concluded, "Although we had a number of cancellations the first few days of May in Los Angeles due to the unrest, the balance of the month was very strong. Initial June passenger bookings are at an all-time high and the company believes that we are on target to report an operating profit for the quarter ending June 30, 1992."
