STATEMENT REGARDING MAY 5 TALKS BETWEEN KROGER AND UFCW LOCALS 876, 539
DETROIT, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Kroger-Michigan said today it has agreed to a request by the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS) for a meeting with UFCW Locals 876 and 539 on Tuesday, May 5, at 10 a.m.
Kroger-Michigan President Joel Greenisen said, "We are interested in determining whether officials of Locals 876 and 539 have now concluded that the strike is hurting everyone involved and are willing to seriously seek a resolution of this dispute."
Greenisen added that the company will not submit to prolonged bargaining sessions. "The strike has gone on too long, and hundreds of our striking employees have indicated they want to return to work. If the leadership is responsive to its membership, it will meet with us in good faith and seek a resolution."
