STATEMENT FROM DAVID KOCH, EXECUTIVE VP KOCH INDUSTRIES, REGARDING
MICHIGAN CITIZENS COMMITTEE AGAINST TERM LIMITATIONS
DETROIT, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from David Koch, executive vice president of Koch Industries, regarding "false and misleading representations" by the Michigan Citizens Committee Against Term Limitations:
I am compelled to respond to the inaccurate statements linking my brother and me to Michigan's term limitations movement.
It is absolutely false that we have targeted or are leading or even influencing the term limitations movement in Michigan.
 Here are the facts:
-- In 1990 and 1991, we provided support to term limit proponents and their broad educational campaign. These proponents cited 70 percent favorable public opinion polls regarding term limits and widespread support ranging from George Will to Ralph Nader.
-- We were concerned that without an effort to educate the public, Americans would be deprived of the opportunity to examine the merits of the issue and vote on it.
-- We agreed to contribute several hundred thousand dollars as seed money to help stimulate a national debate. We had no involvement in whether or not these funds would be spent in Michigan or in any other state.
-- We've made no contributions since 1991. Quite the contrary, representatives of the term limitations movement in Michigan requested a contribution from me and were turned down.
In order to promote an honest discussion and informed vote, we encourage Michigan voters to contact both sides of the term limitations issue. And we'd hope they would examine the arguments on their merits, rather than react to the mudslinging.
