STATEMENT BY PAUL B. KAZARIAN

PROVIDENCE, R.I., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement issued by Paul B. Kazarian:
We are extremely disappointed at Sunbeam-Oster Company's release this morning stating that company employees discarded documents of former chairman and CEO Paul B. Kazarian. It appears that company employees destroyed these documents, including Mr. Kazarian's complete computer files.
The discarded documents apparently include Mr. Kazarian's notes and personal files regarding his stewardship of the company since 1990, and certain Japonica Partners-related items. Such matters are important in various legal proceedings.
We are dismayed at the company's failure to disclose the names of those employees who were responsible for these actions. It is difficult to believe that the destruction of massive amounts of documents was the results of a misunderstanding of the need to keep all inventoried documents.
We also find it astounding that Michael G. Lederman and Robert H. Setrakian were both granted an indefinite leave of absence to focus on the several legal actions pending between the parties. We certainly hope that they are not continuing to be compensated by Sunbeam-Oster.
We intend to pursue all appropriate legal remedies to address the destruction of documents.
