STATEMENT BY DETROIT MAYOR ON FORD PARTS AND SERVICE DIVISION RELOCATION
 OF EMPLOYEES TO RENAISSANCE CENTER
DETROIT, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young made the following statement today regarding the announcement by Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) that its Parts and Service Division will move 700 employees into the Renaissance Center beginning in the second half of 1992:
"Today's announcement is a tremendous shot in the arm for Detroit. I was particularly pleased at the statement by Ford that the facilities they will be moving into 'offer the best office and business environment available.'
"This announcement is particularly significant coming on the heels of the recent announcement by Michigan Bell that it will move 450 jobs into the City and shortly before the opening of the new One Detroit Center office building. These developments make it clear that the downtown remains a strong, attractive location for businesses to locate.
"I understand the that 700 workers represent a total payroll of $37 million, which will be an important addition for restaurants and shops downtown as well.
"I congratulate Ford on its decision and welcome all 700 employees into the downtown work force."
