STATEMENT BY CHRYSLER CORPORATION ON PASSAGE OF HR 4318 & MPV AMENDMENT
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) on the passage of HR 4318 and the MPV amendment:
We are delighted with the House action -- especially because the bill contains a provision classifying all MPVs as trucks.
This provision is a strong vote on behalf of American workers, American taxpayers, and consistency in American trade policy. It simply confirms a ruling by the U.S. Customs Service which, in an unfortunate and baffling move, was overturned by the Treasury Department.
The vote shows a real determination to come to grips with our trade problems. We commend the many men and women in the House who worked long and hard on the bill and its MPV provision. We hope that their hard work and the irrefutable logic and value of the MPV provision will result in the bill being enacted into law.
