STATE-OF-THE-ART SECURITY AT ACADEMY AWARDS

Pinkerton Utilizes Two Advanced Computer-Based Systems
to Ensure Highest Possible Level of Security
LOS ANGELES, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Who or what protects Hollywood's stars from personal danger and overenthusiastic fans at the Academy Awards? This internationally televised event requires the highest levels of security. Because of its public nature, however, security must be low-profile.
For the first time at the awards, Pinkerton Security & Investigation Services will be utilizing two of its sophisticated computer systems, Pinkerton Automated Resources System (PARS(SM)) and IntelliView(R), in the on-site management and hiring of security officers to provide the highest levels of security at this year's event. Both systems are the most advanced and comprehensive in the security industry.
"The combined use of our exclusive system, PARS and our innovative interviewing system IntelliView, allows us to provide the finest security service in the industry," said Thomas W. Wathen, Pinkerton chairman and chief executive officer. "It also ensures that the best, most-qualified officers will stand post at the ceremony."
PARS is an extensive system that provides a complete and instant profile of all security personnel companywide, including experience and special training. It then matches each officer's qualifications with each post's security requirement. The system guarantees that the right officer is at the right post at the right time.
"PARS allows Pinkerton security managers to quickly adjust to changing security demands and respond quickly to supplement security posts or add new officers as necessary," said Larry Jorgenson, vice president of banking and high-rise services for Pinkerton. Jorgenson oversaw security for the Academy Awards for the past five years.
To be hired as a security officer at the Academy Awards, candidates must successfully undergo a five-step pre-employment selection process including the IntelliView structured interview which objectively evaluates candidates' competency, professionalism and, even, integrity.
The comprehensive five-step pre-selection process begins with standard application and the initial interview which are followed by the STANTON(R) Survey, an integrity test used for three decades by companies worldwide to determine attitudes toward honesty.
Next, candidates undergo the computerized structured interview process known as IntelliView. This innovative system utilizes computer technology to perform a highly structured, consistent and documented electronic interview. IntelliView objectively screens applicants by asking a series of 100 questions allowing the candidate to respond, via touch-tone telephone, with "yes," "no" or "uncertain" answers. The questions are time sensitive and industry specific. They focus on job stability, policy compliance, career ambition, productivity, enthusiasm, work ethic and competency skills.
This type of computerized questioning ensures relevant and candid answers that meet the new Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Civil Rights Act of 1991 guidelines.
The fourth step is the face-to-face interview in which the candidate may be asked to explain undesirable or conflicting responses documented during the IntelliView computerized interview. Finally, each candidate receives background checks that further identify candidates whose records meet Pinkerton's stringent hiring guidelines.
The Pinkerton pre-employment selection process has been successfully applied to other industries such as aerospace and defense, financial services and retail as well.
