STATE WATER HEARING SET IN TRUCKEE

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The fifth public hearing on the newest projection of the state's water future will start at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 in Truckee, the California Water Commission announced today. For the first time, the report says, the state could have an ongoing water shortage by the year 2020, when the state is projected to have a population of 49 million.
The hearing will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the administrative offices of the Truckee Sanitary District, 12304 Joerger Drive, Truckee. Sessions may be ended early if all requests to comment have been satisfied. Copies of the report were mailed Dec. 1 to the public and to news media, and are available for review at major public, government and college libraries throughout California, at the Nevada State Library in Carson City and at the Mines Library, University of Nevada, Reno.
The publication is the newest update of the California Water Plan. It presents forecasts of future water demands based on long-range population forecasts provided by the Department of Finance. A second volume of the report presents water budgets for each region of the state, illustrating the balance between future water demands and water supplies.
Ten public hearings on the plan are being held in January and February, and the comments received will be used to finalize the bulletin.
