The occasion is the introduction of the State Farm "Movers & Shakers" program. This is a self-contained program designed to teach school children from grades K through 12 the rudiments of earthquake hazard mitigation in the home and in the schoolroom.
The program consists of a 22-minute professionally produced video in sit-com format, which identifies home hazards and teaches how they can be mitigated. The video is complemented by a sophisticated package of teaching aids which can be used to instruct the children. It is a joint effort of State Farm; the Central United States Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC); the National Association of Elementary School Principals; and the National Coordinating Council of Emergency Managers.
State Farm will provide free copies of the program to any school in the state of Indiana that requests one.
