STATE ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN BOAT REGISTRATIONS

STATE ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN BOAT REGISTRATIONS
COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ohio Department of

Natural Resources (ODNR) today announced a $2 increase in state watercraft registrations. Beginning July 27, any location issuing watercraft registrations will charge a writing fee of $3. H.B. 485, which calls for the increase, was signed into law July 8, 1992.
"There has not been a fee increase for Ohio boat registrations since 1980," said Paul Gregory, chief of ODNR's Division of Watercraft. "Registration agents were not meeting expenses with the $1 writing fee, and as a result, a number of agents discontinued the service. Hopefully a fee of $3 per registration will make it easier for agents to offer the service to boaters."
Ohio boat registrations are issued on a three-year basis.
The following three-year fee schedule now applies to watercraft registered in Ohio:
 Handpowered Craft:
Canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and inflatables $9
 plus $3 writing fee
 Other Propulsion
 (sailboats and electric motors included):
All motorized canoes, boats under 16 feet $22.50
 plus $3 writing fee
 Boats 16 feet to 26 feet $30
 plus $3 writing fee
Boats 26 feet and over $45
 plus $3 writing fee
