(tmc090312kirk) * BIG PLANS: A pounds 70,000 appeal was launched by the tiny congregation of Wiggan Lane Methodist Church to provide a new church at Sheepridge. The scheme got the backing of Lord (Harold) Wilson, MP Barry Sheerman, Summer Wine star Bill Owen, and TV presenters Judith Stamper and Geoff Druett. Evening League president Mr Stallard (third from left) handed over the trophy to his Central League counterpart Gordon Hinchliffe.
