STARBUCKS REPORTS SALES FOR OCTOBER

 SEATTLE, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) today reported sales of $16.2 million for the four weeks ended October 31, 1993, an increase of 72 percent from sales of $9.4 million for the same four-week period of fiscal 1993. On a comparable store sales basis (stores open for at least 13 months), sales increased by 13 percent.
 Starbucks ended its 1993 fiscal year on October 3, 1993, with 253 stores, including ten licensed airport stores. Since that time 11 stores have been opened, bringing to 264 the total number of retail stores and licensed airport stores located in, and the areas surrounding, Seattle, Washington; Chicago, Illinois; Vancouver, British Columbia; Portland, Oregon; Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, California; and Washington, D.C. During fiscal year 1994, the Company plans to open 125 stores and enter the New York, Boston and Minneapolis markets.
 In addition to its 264 retail stores and licensed airport stores, the Company has a national direct mail business; and a specialty sales division serving a wholesale club, a specialty department store chain, a national bookstore chain, a regional airline and fine restaurants and institutions.
