STARBUCKS REPORTS SALES FOR MARCH

 SEATTLE, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ: SBUX) today reported sales of $13.8 million for the five weeks ended March 28, 1993, an increase of 66 percent from $8.3 million in the same five-week period of fiscal 1992. On a comparable store sales basis (stores open for at least one year), sales increased 20 percent.
 For the 26 weeks ended March 28, 1993, total sales were $72.5 million, an increase of 69 percent from the year-earlier 26-week period of $42.8 million. Comparable store sales during this 26-week period increased 23 percent.
 The company ended its 1992 fiscal year on Sept. 27, 1992, with 151 stores and three licensed airport stores. Since that time 42 stores, including three licensed airport stores, have been opened; 17 stores in the first quarter and 25 in the second, bringing to 196 the total number of locations in the metropolitan areas surrounding Seattle; Chicago; Vancouver, British Columbia; Portland, Ore.; Denver; Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, Calif.; and Washington, D.C. In addition the company has a national direct mail business with customers in every state, as well as a specialty sales division serving a wholesale club, fine restaurants and institutions. The company plans to open at least 36 additional locations for a total of 78 new stores in fiscal 1993.
