STARBUCKS AND NORDSTROM JOIN FORCES TO SERVE THE BAY AREA

SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning the second week in March, the trip out to get that perfect cup of Starbucks coffee just might be quicker than you think, Starbucks Coffee Co. (NASDAQ-NMS: SBUX) said today. Especially if you're browsing the latest at Nordstrom.
Nordstrom has made Starbucks Coffee Co. the exclusive nationwide coffee supplier for all of its restaurants, catering and in the lunchrooms of its 72 stores. This alliance represents the first time Nordstrom has used one coffee roaster for all of its coffee needs. Nordstrom is bringing Starbucks on board to provide a consistent, quality cup of coffee throughout the company.
Starbucks Specialty Sales District Manager David Grife will, between March 15 and the end of the month, bring Starbucks coffee to all Bay Area Nordstrom locations. David and his team will provide comprehensive training and coffee education for the Nordstrom folks behind the espresso bars at over 24 venues. "We are more than Nordstrom's coffee supplier," stated Grife, "Starbucks and Nordstrom are involved in a relationship, an uncompromising commitment to quality and service."
The Starbucks coffee to be served by the cup and retailed in whole bean form is unique to Nordstrom and bears the appropriate name, "Nordstrom Blend." Specially developed by Starbucks coffee buyer Dave Olsen, the new Nordstrom Blend combines Latin American and Indonesian coffees for a rich, flavorful cup. "They really came up with a perfect blend for us," said Joleen Davis-Kosmach, corporate merchandise manager for Nordstrom's Restaurant Division. "It's truly a science and nobody does it better than Starbucks."
The coffee was selected after a series of extensive tastings of over a dozen coffees. The "Coffee Committee," as Davis-Kosmach coined them, made the selection for Starbucks based on the coffee's taste, as well as the company's overall proposal for service and support. "We felt that the values that they project for service and quality reflected those of a solid, like-minded company. That coupling of great service and a terrific cup of coffee made Starbucks the clear choice."
"We're thrilled with the decision," said Anne Hardy, vice president of specialty sales for Starbucks Coffee. "We look forward to bringing the finest, freshest coffee the world has to offer to Nordstrom customers."
