STAR OF THE DAY; CORONATION STREET ITV, 7.30pm.

Since he moved into Weatherfield, Des Barnes has been through the mill as a rogue one day, a good guy the next, and a shameless two-timer who has been shamelessly two-timed in return.

Tonight, the Romeo bookie - desperate to work things out with Samantha - finds she has a few ground rules to lay down first.

Fortunately for actor Philip Middlemiss, who owns a pub with former Minder star Gary Webster, his own life is a lot less complicated than his character's.

He's not even married, though he admits he would like to settle down. When?

It's an answer Des Barnes himself would be proud of: "Eventually!"
