STANLEY H. KATZ

 NEW YORK, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Foote Cone & Belding Communications (NYSE: FCB) announced today that Stanley H. Katz, one of the legendary generation of advertising agency founders which included David Ogilvy and Bill Bernbach, died suddenly at the age of 70 on Jan. 19.
 In 1954, he and Lester Leber went into business as Leber Katz Partners. The agency grew from one office to five floors in the General Motors Building, from under a million dollars to over $550 million in billings. On June 30, 1986, the agency became FCB/LKP and Stanley Katz became the vice chairman of Foote Cone Belding Communications, Inc., chairman of the executive committee of the board, chairman of FCB/East.
 "Absolute Excellence" was the goal to which Stanley Katz drove his agency.

 Among the clients closely identified with Stanley Katz are RJR Tobacco, RJR/Nabisco, Campbell Soup, Brown-Forman, Citibank and the Jamaica Tourist Board. His agency's clients include Colgate-Palmolive, Marriott, AT&T, Avon, Corning, Johnson & Johnson, Planters/Lifesavers, Rayovac.
 In May of 1991, Stanley H. Katz retired from all his official posts at FCB, although he remained a consultant to the company. Later in 1991, always the entrepreneur, he founder Red Shark Technology Corp. in partnership with IBM, to pioneer multimedia marketing software.

 Stanley Katz leaves his wife of 46 years, Vivienne; three sons, Robert, Douglas and William; six grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy.
 He attended New York University and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
 He was trustee of the Edison Foundation; Friends of Edison Trust on National Historic site and a major donor to the Newark Museum, of which Mrs. Katz is a trustee. He was also a director of the American Paralysis Association and Orange Mountain Healthcare, Inc. and a member of The Lotos Club, New York Friars Club, New York Yacht Club, Royal Danish Yacht Club, Lucullus Circle.
