STANFORD TELECOM TO SUPPLY VITERBI DECODERS TO SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA FOR USE IN DIGITAL VIDEO COMPRESSION DELIVERY

 SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanford Telecommunications Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: STII) announced today that its ASIC & Custom Products Division has entered into an agreement with Scientific-Atlanta Inc., to develop and supply a specialized applications specific integrated circuit (ASIC) device for use in delivering Scientific-Atlanta's MPEG-based digital video compression over satellite for the cable TV and other markets.
 Stanford Telecom will provide a state-of-the-art, high-speed Viterbi decoder which provides Forward Error Correction (FEC), a critical link in video data paths via satellite transmission. Viterbi decoding is an industry-acknowledged technique for improving digital communications performance over communications links with low signal strengths. Prototypes from Stanford Telecom have already been delivered to Scientific-Atlanta.
 Stanford Telecom's specialized ASIC product operates at data rates that are believed to exceed those of any other Viterbi decoder currently available to commercial industry.
