STANFORD TELECOM AWARDED $2.1 MILLION SUBCONTRACTS TO DEVELOP FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZERS

 SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanford Telecommunications Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: STII) announced that its Microwave Systems Division (MSD) has recently been awarded two subcontracts to design, build, test and deliver custom frequency synthesizer products for major government programs. Together, these subcontracts amount to $2.1 million. The programs involve advanced satellite communications technology. Stanford Telecom's Microwave Systems Division is located in Woburn, Mass. These subcontracts represent the largest programs awarded to this division which specializes in custom frequency synthesizer programs for both commercial and government customers.
 Frequency synthesizers perform a function similar to the tuning knob on radios or televisions except they very precisely re-tune electronically and at very high speeds. They are used in a wide variety of modem communications, radar and electronic test equipment. Stanford Telecom synthesizers are noted for their re-tuning speed and low noise characteristics and have many applications to frequency hop spread spectrum communication links.
 Stanford Telecom, a digital telecommunications company, designs, manufactures and operates satellite communications and navigation systems for commercial, international and government customers. These systems provide a variety of functions including communications, satellite navigation, earth observation and tracking, telemetry and control for fixed stations as well as mobile and airborne users. The company is also a commercial supplier of high-performance Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) chips and ASIC-based chip sets and modules to the spread spectrum wireless communications and digital narrowband telecommunications markets and is also active in commercial contract manufacturing.
