STANFORD TELECOM ANNOUNCES COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE OF VOICE-OVER-CABLE TV PRODUCTS

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanford Telecommunications Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: STII) announced that its ASIC and Custom Products Division successfully completed and received prototype acceptance of "voice over CATV" equipment developed by the company for a major telecommunications customer.
The customer's system allows cable TV service providers to transmit voice communication locally to homes via existing cable infrastructures. Stanford Telecom was selected as the developer of baseband processing functions for both the Headend and Subscriber Modems for the system. Located within subscriber equipment (installed in homes), Stanford Telecom's Subscriber Modem will transmit and receive voice signals between headend stations and the subscriber's telephone. Located within headend equipment, Stanford Telecom's Headend Modem has burst communication capabilities to transmit and receive voice signals to and from multiple Subscriber Modems. Stanford Telecom's ASIC and Custom Products Division successfully completed the development of the Headend and Subscriber Modems, and is currently shipping prototypes.
Hatch Graham, vice president and general manager of Stanford Telecom's ASIC and Custom Products Division, stated that, "We have developed equipment that provides outstanding bandwidth efficiency and digital processing performance, at a low cost." Graham goes on to say, "Based on recent demonstrations, the modem products have shown the ability to provide a valuable edge to our customer's equipment."
Stanford Telecom's development of production versions of the Subscriber and Headend Modems is expected to begin in June of this year.
