STAINLESS POLISHING SYSTEM APPROVED FOR MASSILLON FACILITY

MASSILLON, Ohio, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Lukens Inc. (NYSE: LUC) today announced a $3.3 million capital project to install a stainless wet polishing line at Washington Steel's Massillon facility.
"When completed, this system will significantly increase our capacity for polished stainless sheet and strip," said T. Grant John, president and chief operating officer of Washington Steel Corporation. "It is a cost effective way to expand Washington Steel's presence in the polished steel market, where we already have an established reputation for quality.
"In addition, the new line enables us to provide better service to our customers by reducing lead times and enhancing the surface quality of our products," said John. "Lower production costs will be realized."
Equipped with five polishing heads, the new system processes 300-series stainless coils up to 30,000 pounds in widths from 24 to 48 inches and in gauges from .015 to .125 inches. The project is expected to go on-line during the fourth quarter of 1994.
