ST. PAUL FIRE AND MARINE DISPUTES JURY VERDICT

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company today issued a comment on a jury verdict reached earlier this week in the Superior Court of California, Contra Costa County. The verdict, against St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company and in favor of Arntz Contracting Company, included $16.5 million in compensatory damages, interest, and $100 million of punitive damages.
St. Paul Fire and Marine believes that the verdict is not supported by the evidence and that the award is grossly excessive. The company will vigorously appeal the decision.
St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, a member of The St. Paul Companies (NYSE: SPC), is the nation's 15th largest property-liability insurance company.
