ST. LUCIE NUCLEAR PLANT RECEIVES BEST-EVER SALP 'REPORT CARD'

ST. LUCIE NUCLEAR PLANT RECEIVES BEST-EVER SALP 'REPORT CARD'
HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company's St. Lucie nuclear power plant received a "superior performance" rating from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in its recent Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) report. The NRC's assessment noted "superior performance in all seven functional areas of the plant, a condition that is rarely achieved by a nuclear power plant." St. Lucie is the first nuclear plant in NRC Region 2 (Southeast) to receive all category "one" ratings.
The SALP report is a "plant report card" based on NRC observations from Nov. 1, 1990 through May 2, 1992. In a letter notifying FPL of the evaluation, NRC Regional Administrator Stewart D. Ebneter said, "This level of performance can only be achieved by teamwork at all levels and a dedication to excellence by everyone associated with the facility. It is indicative of proactive senior management setting high standards of safety performance and providing the resources necessary to achieve those standards."
The NRC and FPL will discuss the SALP report -- the best-ever for St. Lucie -- at a public meeting to be held at the St. Lucie facility on June 30, 1992 at 10 a.m.
The performance categories for the current and previous SALP reports in each category are as follows:
