SSS on calls public to avail of condonation program.
The Social Security System (SSS) in Western Visayas 2 Division urged the public to avail of the Contribution Penalty Condonation Program (CPCP) which will be offered until this September 6.
The CPCP gives leeway to employers to pay without the imposition of the 2 percent SSS penalties for late contribution, said lawyer Bernardo Dofitas Jr., acting department head of SSS West Visayas 2 division, in an interview on Thursday.
'After September 6, the penalties will again be imposed. Some of the employers complain that they are paying much on their penalties, but now is the time that the SSS does not impose the penalty,' he said.
The state pension fund formerly implemented 3 percent of SSS penalties for late contributions but it was cut to 2 percent, as amended by the SSS law or the Republic Act No. 11199.
Although the penalties were lowered, Dofitas said this should not be the reason for employers not to avail of the condonation program.
Since the program was launched on March 5, the SSS said it had been communicating and campaigning the CPCP to employers.
Dofitas advised employers not to wait for September 6, or the last day, to avail of the program as the deadline is non-extendable.
'We see that many avail of the program in the last remaining days. They are also advised to come prepared,' he said, advising employers to come earlier as there are documents that still need to be processed.
Employers who will avail of the program need to bring a letter of intent while corporations, which will be sending representatives, must secure a board resolution authorizing the representation.
Applicants need to fill in two to three pages of the form available at the SSS office.
'Some of these documents need to be notarized,' he noted.
The SSS offices will also extend office hours to accommodate the volume of members on September 6, he said.
Dofitas said the CPCP is offered only at an average of 10 years.
The SSS welcomes condonation applicants at their office at TTW building, Mapa Corner, J.M. Basa Street in this city; SSS Robinsons Iloilo Service Office; SSS Molo GT Plaza Mall; SSS Passi City; and branches located in the provinces in Western Visayas
