SPS TECHNOLOGIES TO TRANSFER OPERATIONS FROM SANTA ANA, CALIF., PLANT
NEWTOWN, Pa., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- SPS Technologies (NYSE: ST) today announced that in keeping with its restructuring plan of May 3, 1991, its Santa Ana, Calif., aerospace fastener plant will be closed and sold after manufacturing operations have been transferred to other facilities.
The move is scheduled to be completed by the end of 1993. The plant produces high-strength nuts, bolts and screws for commercial and military aircraft and space vehicles.
Most of Santa Ana's fastener production will be moved to the SPS aerospace fastener plant in Jenkintown, Pa. The production of titanium fasteners will be transferred from California to the SPS aerospace fastener plant in Salt Lake City. NUTT-SHEL brand self-locking plate nuts will continue to be manufactured by SPS in the Los Angeles area at a location still to be selected.
SPS Technologies will maintain its product engineering and sales staff in California to serve aerospace customers on the West Coast.
As part of its consolidation of manufacturing operations, SPS will transfer Jenkintown's production of UNBRAKO(R) socket screw fasterner to its industrial fastener and UNBRAKO products plant in Cleveland.
According to John R. Selby, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, "By consolidating most of our domestic aerospace fastener production into two plants, we will realize manufacturing efficiencies, bring our manufacturing capacity into better balance with the fastener market, and be able to serve our customers more effectively. We have sufficient space remaining in these plants to accommodate the future growth of our aerospace fastener business as well as the planned expansion of our precision components business."
