SPS TECHNOLOGIES' CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER JOHN R. SELBY ANNOUNCES PLAN TO RETIRE

 NEWTOWN, Pa., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- SPS Technologies (NYSE: ST) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John R. Selby today announced his plan to retire from that post when a successor is chosen and elected by the board of directors.
 Selby, who will be 64 in August, joined the company in June 1970 as president and CEO. He has been chairman and CEO since 1986. He will remain a director of the company.
 A committee of the board consisting of outside directors has been formed to conduct the succession search which will involve the evaluation of candidates from within and outside the company.
 Selby commented that he would expect the process could be completed within six months and that his successor could look forward to a smooth transition.
 It is contemplated that the company's annual meeting will be held following the conclusion of the search process.
