SPRINT TO PROVIDE FREE CALLING AT CAMP PENDLETON; MARS CALLING VOLUMES REMAIN VERY HEAVY

 KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) will provide Marine and Naval personnel and their dependents free calling over the holidays as they ship out from Camp Pendleton to Somalia (and for dependents remaining) as part of a special program that will run from Dec. 20-26.
 Sprint will provide free phone calls during the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to all Marine and Navy personnel and dependents. In addition, Marine and Navy spouses will assist in coordinating the Camp Pendleton calling program and Sprint will pay them for their assistance.
 "We have been strong supporters of our military personnel for years and this program should help ease the burden of being away from loved ones this holiday season," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group. "We are proud of the military's efforts in Somalia and wanted to say thanks' by offering free long distance services."
 In addition to the Camp Pendleton project, Sprint has been providing free calling via the Military Affiliates Radio System (MARS) network since Thanksgiving to troops involved in Somalia. To date, literally thousands of calls have been placed back to loved ones in the United States.
 Sprint has been providing free MARS calling for holidays for the past eight years. In addition, Sprint offered free calling during the entire Persian Gulf crisis.
 Calls over the MARS network have dealt with a variety of topics, including such issues as:
 -- Deaths of family members.
 -- A fire at home.
 -- A spouse involved in a car accident.
 -- A service member going to be a new father.
 -- Ordering parts for ships.
 -- Ordering parts for ships.
 Sprint also has donated $10,000 to CARE as a humanitarian gesture to assist the Somali people.
