SPRINT SPONSORS PROGRAMS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES WITH SBA
WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) and the U.S. Small Business Administration today announced free access to a new computer bulletin board system for small business people.
SBA ON-LINE, the new SBA computer bulletin-board system, will deliver business information -- including information on how to start and build a small business -- directly to a small business person's home or office or to a computer at one of the regional Business Information Centers the SBA is opening nationwide. Sprint is providing two 800 numbers that will allow small business people to call SBA ON-LINE free of charge.
Using Sprint's 800 numbers, SBA ON-LINE callers can learn about the SBA's services and publications, they can access an SBA calendar highlighting small business activities around the country, and they can ask specific questions of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a cadre of experienced advisers who donate their time at the SBA Business Information Centers.
Callers can read information using the SBA's comprehensive menu or they can download entire files to their computer for later study.
"Sprint's support of SBA ON-LINE is part of our continuing effort to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in America," said Gary Forsee, president of Sprint's Business Services Group and a member of the SBA's National Advisory Council. "Our partnership with small businesses is clearly evident through a variety of innovative programs we offer customers."
Said Patricia Saiki, SBA administrator, "SBA ON-LINE and the Business Information Centers are important new high-tech business development tools to assist the small business community. We greatly appreciate the contributions made by Sprint and our other private sector partners."
Small business people with a computer and modem can access SBA ON-LINE by calling one of two Sprint 800 numbers. Using a 2400 baud modem, callers may dial 800-859-INFO (4636); using a 9600 baud modem, callers may dial 800-697-INFO (4636).
Those unable to dial into SBA ON-LINE can obtain more information about the SBA by calling their local SBA office or by calling the SBA Answer Desk at 800-827-5722.
