SPRINT NAMES LEWIN VICE PRESIDENT-GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

 WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- James E. Lewin Jr., 48, has been named vice president-government affairs for Sprint (NYSE: FON), according to an announcement today by J. Richard Devlin, Sprint's executive vice president and general counsel. The appointment is effective March 1.
 Lewin will be located in Sprint's Washington governmental affairs office and will be responsible for representing the company before Congress and certain other government agencies on a wide variety of international and domestic federal legislative issues. He will report to John Hoffman, Sprint's senior vice president of external affairs, in Kansas City, Mo.
 "We are extremely pleased to have Jim join the Sprint team," said Devlin. "His extensive legislative experience, knowledge and skills, combined with his energy and dedication, will strengthen our government affairs efforts in Washington."
 Lewin has served since January 1989 as chief investigator for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary, and in the same capacity for the House Government Operations Committee from 1977 to 1989. During his career he also worked three years for the U.S. General Accounting Office and eight years as a field engineer with National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Goddard Space Flight Center. His most recent assignment was as deputy team leader for the executive branch agencies in the Clinton/Gore Presidential Transition Office.
 A graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in accounting, Lewin also served four years in the U.S. Navy.
