SPRINT INTRODUCES CUSTOMIZED FONCARD FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- When traveling internationally, you no longer need an interpreter and several pieces of dialing information to make a phone call. With Sprint's customized WorldTraveler FONCARD, you have everything you need to complete your call.
Sprint's WorldTraveler FONCARD is the first calling card specifically designed for the international traveler. The card displays United States and worldwide dialing instructions, including numbers for reaching an English-speaking operator from more than 60 countries. It allows travelers to customize the card for each trip to match their personal itinerary and to fulfill all their calling needs.
Travelers no longer have to carry a detailed list of all access numbers. They have these toll-free access numbers at their fingertips when they use the WorldTraveler FONCARD.
Sprint provides cardholders with toll-free access numbers to reach Sprint operators. Cardholders can call from more than 60 countries around the world and can customize their WorldTraveler FONCARD by attaching Sprint access numbers for their travel destinations to the front of the card.
Sprint's WorldTraveler FONCARD has features that make calling easier:
-- Easy-to-follow dialing instructions on the back of the card.
-- Access number stickers for the country or countries you are traveling to.
-- Toll-free access to English-speaking operators and customer service representatives 24 hours a day, any day of the week.
-- Easy calling from country-to-country, within a country or back to the United States.
-- Convenient billing to your monthly account in U.S. currency.
-- Instructions for usage at home in the United States, or abroad.
"The WorldTraveler FONCARD allows American travelers to customize their own phone card to suit their travel itinerary," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group.
t of calling from outside the U.S."
The Sprint WorldTraveler FONCARD enables callers to reach an English-speaking operator by dialing a country-specific toll-free Sprint access number. By using this number to reach a Sprint operator, the caller can bypass the need for foreign language operators, foreign currency and hotel surcharges.
The WorldTraveler FONCARD was created by Sprint to maximize the ease of making international calls. Sprint offers the following tips to help consumers save money and avoid phone fraud when traveling abroad:
-- Review your international calling procedures and rates before you leave the United States. If you have questions, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-800-877-4646.
-- After you arrive at your foreign destination, ask a staff member at the hotel about the hotel's telephone rates and how to place a call. Hotel surcharges and calling procedures may differ greatly from one hotel to the next.
-- Avoid calling from your hotel room if surcharges seem unreasonably high. It may be cheaper to use a pay phone in the hotel lobby or elsewhere.
-- Protect your WorldTraveler FONCARD number. If your card is lost or stolen, immediately report this to Sprint.
In addition to the new WorldTraveler FONCARD, Sprint has introduced a variety of calling cards for specific segments of the U.S. market over the last few years. Earlier this year, Sprint introduced Chinese and Korean FONCARD. The company also offers FONCARD Espanol for Spanish- speaking callers, a Japanese FONCARD and a Braille FONCARD.
Sprint (NYSE: FON) is a diversified international telecommunications company with more than $10 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network.
Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, local telephone services to nearly 5.9 million subscriber lines in 19 states, and cellular operations that serve 42 metropolitan markets and more than 50 rural service areas.
