 SPRINT INAUGURATES FIRST INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC
VIDEOCONFERENCING SERVICE TO REPUBLIC OF KOREA
WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) and Korea Telecom, formerly the Korea Telecommunications Authority, today announced the opening of that country's first public videoconferencing room and the availability of international service between Seoul and Sprint's worldwide videoconferencing network.
The service was inaugurated with a videoconferencing session between Korea Telecom in Seoul and Sprint International executives in Kansas City, Mo., and Reston, Va., and Sprint Meeting Channel executives in Atlanta.
"Videoconferencing is the business communications medium for today's global marketplace," said Paolo Guidi, president of Sprint International, Sprint's global telecommunications and private networks subsidiary.
"We believe the international service we have started will become a convenient communications means for customers both in the U.S. and the Republic of Korea," said Hae-Wook Rhee, president of Korea Telecom.
International videoconferencing capability provides Korean businesses and government organizations with a link to the Sprint Meeting Channels more than 1,200 rooms in more than 30 nations worldwide.
In addition, the room serves as an international gateway for multinational companies with private videoconferencing rooms in their Korean offices. By installing a private line link to the Korea Telecom room, private video room operators can connect with colleagues worldwide through the Meeting Channel network.
Videoconferencing service, in speeds to T-1/E-1 (1.544/2.048 Mbps), is commercially available through Korea Telecom immediately. Korea Telecom anticipates opening additional public rooms throughout Korea.
Sprint operators are available domestically 800-669-1235 or internationally at 01-404-859-8650 for Meeting Channel reservations.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.8 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
