SPRINT FIRST TO OFFER DIRECT DIAL SERVICE TO LAOS
WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today

announced that it now offers direct-dial service to Laos.
Sprint is the first U.S. carrier to provide direct-dial service to Laos, extending its leadership in providing long distance connections between the United States and Southeast Asia. Earlier this year, Sprint became the first U.S. carrier to offer service to Cambodia and was the first U.S. carrier to provide direct-dial service to Vietnam after the lifting of the trade embargo in April of this year.
"Sprint is delighted to improve the service we can offer to the large Southeast Asian community in the U.S.," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group. "Sprint offers direct dial service to more locations than any other U.S. carrier. Our service offers uncomplicated and cost-efficient overseas calling from the U.S."
The new service will permit the estimated 150,000 Laotians living in the United States to call friends, relatives and businesses in their native country economically by avoiding operator assistance charges or overpriced interconnect services through third country arrangements.
The country code for Laos is 856 and city code for Vientiane is 21.
Sprint now serves 220 countries and international locations with direct-dial service. For assistance in calling international locations, Sprint operators are available 24 hours a day by calling 800-877-8000. After the computer tone, an operator will come on the line.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.9 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
