SPRINT EXPANDS VIDEOCONFERENCING WITH PICTURETEL STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced an agreement to co-market PictureTel's videoconferencing systems. PictureTel, headquartered in Danvers, Mass., develops, manufactures and markets software-upgradable visual telecommunications products for worldwide use. The agreement now aligns Sprint with all the major U.S. video systems manufacturers.
With PictureTel's support, Sprint's Video Group will offer PictureTel systems through Sprint's national sales force and regional videoconferencing specialists. The two companies will co-market PictureTel's complete family of System 4000 videoconferencing systems, which is designed to address a full range of videoconferencing applications.
The agreement with PictureTel expands Sprint's portfolio of product offerings and lets Sprint Video act as the single point of contact for the customer on PictureTel system purchases.
Sprint's sole source, end-to-end solution grows from its applications-driven approach to videoconferencing. With this approach, Sprint considers all of the components needed to make videoconferencing a success rather than looking at only transmission or equipment.
As a result of this philosophy, Sprint offers a diversified selection of products and services, including internetwork, codec, and international connectivity as well as conference reservations, end-user training, internal promotion programs, and equipment maintenance and installation. The addition of PictureTel to this diversified product portfolio enhances Sprint's consultative role of assisting the customer in choosing the best equipment solution.
Sprint's Video Group is a videoconferencing market leader which offers a complete range of network options from the fully managed Sprint Meeting Channel to bandwidth-on-demand over Sprint's switched Virtual Private Network (VPN 56). Sprint's Video Group also offers equipment and support services to facilitate video communications for organizations of all sizes.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.9 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
