SPRINT EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL OPERATOR SERVICES TO COVER THE WORLD

SPRINT EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL OPERATOR SERVICES TO COVER THE WORLD
KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced it has expanded its International Operator Services (IOS) to help callers reach more worldwide destinations than ever before available from any U.S. carrier.
The new services offer person-to-person calling and international directory assistance and general assistance calling to 224 countries and locations.
Customers are offered five major benefits from the newly expanded services:
-- Person-to-Person Calling. Customers are able to call
person-to-person internationally and be charged only if the
person they're trying to contact is available. The Sprint
operator assists the caller by asking for the called party
when the phone is answered. When the requested party is on
the phone, the long distance charges begin. If the called
party is not present, there are no charges.
-- International Directory Assistance (IDA). Sprint operators
can assist callers in obtaining directory assistance from any
foreign destination where directory assistance is available.
The Sprint operator connects to the overseas IDA operator and
allows the caller to obtain one telephone number of his or her
 choice.
-- International General Assistance (IGA). Callers have access
to information, such as the time in another country,
international long distance rates, country and city codes, and
dialing and trouble assistance. IGA services may or may not
require the assistance of an overseas operator, depending on
the country and the type of assistance requested.
-- Foreign-Language Assistance For Call Completion. Sprint
operators can help callers complete person-to-person,
directory and general assistance calls when the called party
 does not speak English.
-- Worldwide Calling Ability. With these new services, callers
can reach 224 countries and locations around the world.
"These new expanded services show Sprint's dedication to being the best international telecommunications provider in the world," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group. "Our commitment to making international calls easier will continue to benefit callers who choose the quality of Sprint's international services as we move forward this decade and beyond."
Sprint operators can assist callers 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a- week. Callers can reach a Sprint operator by dialing: 00, or 01 + overseas number, from a presubscribed Sprint phone; and 103330, 1-800-877-8000, or 1033301 + overseas number from any phone.
Sprint and non-Sprint customers are able to experience the value of Sprint's low international rates through several billing options. Customers are able to bill from their Sprint presubscribed phone, a Sprint FONCARD, a local exchange carrier (LEC) card or a third-party number when calling from a presubscribed Sprint phone.
In addition to the benefits of the newly expanded international operator services, Sprint also provides customers with direct-dial service to more countries and locations than any other U.S. phone company.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.8 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
