SPRINT ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES

 KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced a series of strategic management changes designed to better serve its customers, according to Sprint Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William T. Esrey.
 Esrey announced that Ron J. Ponder, Sprint chief information officer, will assume the additional responsibility for Sprint's Long Distance Division Network Operations. In doing so, Sprint's Long Distance Information Services (IS) organization and Network organization will be combined under Ponder. In this capacity, Ponder will report to Ronald T. LeMay, Sprint Long Distance Division president and chief operating officer.
 As CIO for Sprint Corporation reporting to Esrey, Ponder will continue to be responsible for all corporate IS planning and development, corporate-wide IS architectural planning, as well as all Local Telephone Division IS planning, development and operations.
 "These changes are designed to make our operations more efficient and even more responsive to customer needs, now and in the future," LeMay said. "Integrating Network and Information Services allows us to focus the power of our technical planning and systems operations to the fullest customer advantage."
 In conjunction with these changes, the following executives will report to Ponder:
 -- George N. Fuciu, 46, currently senior vice president, Program Management, will become senior vice president, Network.
 -- William G. Pfeiffer, 58, currently senior vice president, Sprint Data Group, will assume duties as senior vice president, Technology Planning.
 Continuing to report to Ponder in their current positions are John A. Mihalovich, vice president, Information Services; Rod C. Mack, vice president, Business Systems; Michael L. Massey, vice president, Processing Services; and Ross W. Halmon, assistant vice president, International Systems.
 LeMay announced he will add a new staff operations function, and the following executives will report to him:
 -- Gary D. Forsee, 42, currently president, Business Services Group, will assume the newly created position of senior vice president, Staff Operations. In his new post, Forsee will serve as LeMay's chief of staff and will be responsible for business process improvement and quality development and involved in strategic planning and business development activities.
 -- Patti S. Manuel, 36, currently vice president/general manager, Business Markets Group/Great Lakes Region in Chicago, will replace Forsee as president of the Business Services Group (small to medium- sized business customers).
 -- David W. Dorman, 39, president, Major Accounts Group (large business and government customers), will assume the additional responsibility for all product and service activities associated with the Long Distance Division's data business.
 Continuing to report to LeMay in their current positions are Paolo L. Guidi, president, Sprint International; David R. Schmieg, president, Consumer Services Group; and Thomas E. Weigman, chief marketing officer.
 In a related move, Michael A. (Mick) McCarthy, 47, senior vice president, Network, will assume new duties as senior vice president, Service Management (customer service and network support for large business customers), reporting to Dorman.
