SPRINT ANNOUNCES CONTRACT WITH THE NCAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) today announced a three- year contract designating Sprint as the official telecommunications provider for NCAA Championships.
Sprint is providing long distance services to the NCAA, including domestic and international voice services, 800 and 900 services and videoconferencing as well as cellular and local telephone services. Three years ago Sprint signed its first agreement with the NCAA, providing long distance services as an official telecommunications partner.
As part of the new agreement, Sprint now becomes the only local, cellular and long distance telecommunications company that can use the NCAA's trade marks and logo in its advertising.
"Sprint shares the NCAA vision of excellence," said Richard Schultz, NCAA executive director. "Sprint continues to develop innovative ideas and services that suit our requirements."
For example, the NCAA has experienced overwhelming success with its Sprint 900 number that provided ticket information for the past few years' Division 1-A Men's Basketball Championship -- the Final Four. This year, the 900 number received more than a hundred thousand calls from hopeful basketball enthusiasts desiring ticket information for next year's tournament.
"We appreciate the opportunity this agreement provides us to drive some of the positive programs for young people sponsored through the NCAA," said William T. Esrey, Sprint chairman and chief executive officer. "NCAA and Sprint both value competitive excellence and champion those values to all our constituents."
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with more than $10 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, local telephone services to more than 6 million subscriber lines in 19 states, and cellular operations that serve 42 metropolitan markets and more than 50 rural service areas.
