Byline: The Register-GuardGraduation will be Friday for 280 students at Springfield High School. Commencement speakers will be selected from seniors with highest honors.
A baccalaureate service will be Thursday.
Seniors with highest honors are:
Whitney Akers, the daughter of Judy Akers of Springfield, plans to attend New York University and major in broadcast journalism and international studies. She was president of the National Honor Society, senior class secretary, Key Club secretary and district swim champion in the 100-yard breaststroke.
James Halttunen is the son of Dana and Mary Halttunen of Springfield and plans to attend Willamette University. He was a member of the National Honor Society, recipient of a Harvard Prize Book Award, lettered in track and soccer, and was honored for math.
Marc Hardy is the son of Steve and Nancy Hardy of Springfield. He plans to attend Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho and become a music minister. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was drumline section leader, participated in jazz band council and was honored for outstanding achievement in math by Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Sarah Jennings is the daughter of Clay and Bonnie Jennings of Springfield. She plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in psychology. She was vice president of the National Honor Society and was honored Outstanding Senior Woman.
Anna Korinek is the daughter of Randy and Mary Sullivan of Eugene and Rollie Korinek of Springfield. She plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in elementary education. Her outstanding achievements include the National Honor Society, honor roll, cheerleading captain, homecoming princess and athlete.
Irene Landeros is the daughter of Sandra Solano of Springfield. She plans to attend Lane Community College to major in graphic design. She was honored for Spanish and Scholarship, and involved in the National Honor Society. She also maintained a 4.0 GPA and was awarded a scholarship from the Bill & Faith Kinkel Memorial Scholarship.
Bethany Vogeney, the daughter of Ken and Chari Vogeney of Springfield, plans to attend Oregon State University and major in natural resources. She was involved in the National Honor Society, pep band, symphonic band and marching band. She was honored for science and was honorable mention in the 2002 Dupont Science Essay Awards Competition.
Jeff Woodford is the son of Lou and Gail Woodford of Springfield. He plans to attend the University of Oregon. He was a member of the National Honor Society, student director of the pep band, drum major and cross-country team captain. He was named Mr. SHS and honored in health.
