SPRING AIR MATTRESS CO.: VANNA WHITE AND SPRING AIR MATTRESS BENEFIT COMIC RELIEF AND SAN FRANCISCO HOMELESS

SAN FRANCISCO, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Spring Air Mattress Co.:
Television personality Vanna White today joined representatives of Spring Air Mattress Co. and Macy's to present a gift of 50 mattresses to Comic Relief and San Francisco's Hamilton Family Shelter.
Vanna White, Spring Air's national spokesperson, and Don Vesey, president, Spring Air of Northern California, and Paul Wisney, divisional merchandise manager, Macy's, presented the gift, to Mario Bernheim, Comic Relief director of special events, and Dick Clark, executive director, Hamilton Family Shelter.
The mattress donation, with a retail value of $10,000, is part of Chicago-based Spring Air Co.'s national "BedBank" program to benefit the Comic Relief organization. The bedding will be used in transitional housing for homeless families run by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
Vesey said he is pleased in making this donation to Comic Relief because of the excellent work the organization does in the San Francisco area. "We salute Comic Relief's outstanding efforts in providing healthcare to the homeless, and we welcome the opportunity to provide our product for an existing need in this community," he said.
"Companies must do more than sell products and services, and we have always recognized that businesses are an integral part of the community. Our participation in the BedBank is just one way in which we can help our neighbors help themselves," Wisney noted.
In accepting the gift, Bernheim stated, "Comic Relief is proud of its affiliation with Spring Air and its efforts to support us in providing assistance to those less fortunate around the country."
Clark expressed the shelter's gratitude. "Donations from concerned corporate groups like you are so vital in our efforts to meet the needs of needy families in our community," he said. "We consider you part of our helping team."
This donation is the fifth to date in a series of events nationwide sponsored by Spring Air and spokesperson Vanna White, and represents $50,000 worth of bedding donated to Comic Relief and its affiliates in 1993.
The BedBank was initiated in 1990 with a donation by Spring Air's Northern California factory to San Francisco's Delancey Street Foundation. In the three years of this national program, Spring Air has donated some $392,000 worth of mattresses in 18 U.S. cities, on 27 separate occasions. Vanna White, Spring Air spokesperson since 1986, has spearheaded the company's BedBank charity efforts.
