SPRING AIR MATTRESS, VANNA WHITE DONATE BEDDING TO LOCAL CHARITY
TACOMA, Wash., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring Air Northwest/Tacoma, and television personality Vanna White donated 100 mattress sets to the Martin Luther King Foundation, a local social-care agency, during a special ceremony today, Spring Air said.
Spring Air Northwest President Joseph L. Carman IV and Vanna White, Spring Air's national spokesperson, presented the mattress sets to David Boyd, executive director of the Martin Luther King Foundation.
"We salute the Martin Luther King Foundation's outstanding community social services," said Carman. "Their programs are designed to allow people to deal effectively with their problems in order to get back on their feet. These activities significantly enhance the quality of life in Tacoma.
"Spring Air Northwest has been in business for 108 years," he added, "and we have always recognized that companies are an integral part of their community. We welcome the opportunity to match our product to an existing need in our city.
"Our participation in the 'Spring Air-Vanna White Bed Bank' is just one way in which we help our neighbors help themselves," he noted.
In accepting the gift, Boyd expressed the Martin Luther King Foundation's gratitude. "Donations from concerned individuals and groups like you are so vital in our efforts to meet the necessities of citizens in need in the community," he said. "We consider Spring Air and Vanna members of our helping team."
The mattress set donation, with a retail value of $20,000, is part of a nationwide philanthropic campaign by Spring Air and its spokesperson Vanna White. The "Bed Bank" program distributes bedding as outright gifts to select social services organizations, such as the Martin Luther King Foundation. The Tacoma donation event included a Spring Air-sponsored charity golf outing with area retailers.
The fourth-generation, family owned Spring Air Northwest/Tacoma is in its 108th year of operation and has been a member of the Chicago- based, 38-plant Spring Air Co. since the early 1930s.
To date, the international Spring Air Co. and its retailers have donated $300,000 worth of bedding nationwide. One of the nation's major bedding producers, the Chicago-based corporation has 38 manufacturing facilities located throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Ireland and Korea. The privately held company had overall sales of $239 million in 1991.
