SPORTSCENE FOUNDER ELECTED CANADA'S 'RESTAURATEUR OF THE YEAR'

MONTREAL, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- At the nineteenth annual Top Management Night held in Toronto by the Canadian Food Service Executives Association, Mr. Georges Durst, CEO of Sportscene Restaurants Inc., the publicly traded owner of La Cage aux Sports, was awarded the Silver Goblet by Mrs. Heather Oliver, executive publisher of Canadian Hotel and Restaurant Magazine. During his presentation, C.H.& R.'s editor, Mr. Jerry Tutunjian, remarked "our magazine congratulates the king of Sportscene Restaurants Inc. for his untiring perseverance, brilliant vision and his knack for the successful, albeit unusual, marketing tactics. We should be grateful to Mr. Durst for his job creation efforts."
Indeed, Sportscene hires more than 2700 employees and continues to offer career opportunities through its expansion. Last year, Profit Magazine named Sportscene, which trades on the Montreal Stock Exchange (symbols SPS.A. and SPS.PR.A), as one of the fastest growing companies in Canada. The Quebec-based restaurant chain now operates 30 restaurants; 20 franchises and 10 corporate. It opens approximately 7 new outlets per year.
At this point, Mr. Durst says his chain is ready to merge with a major partner in Canada and/or the United States.
