SPORTS LETTER: Home comforts suit our Michael.

Byline: GARY TURNER

MYSELF and many other Cestrians (Chester people) are 'once again seething because you said our hero was born in Hawarden, Wales - wrong! He grew up there but was born in England.

As an English city close to the border we are quite sensitive towards this issue (as I think you have imagined already). We all had a moan and groan about it this morning at work. Michael was born in the Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester, England - if you don't believe me, ask him!

In his book he says that he is fed up with people asking the same question - 'why didn't you play for Wales?

Why should he? He was born in England of English parents. Perhaps he should play for Wales because his great-great grandad once went to Rhyl for a day trip so he must qualify mustn't he? Mind you I must qualify for Italy because I once had some shoes made there.- GARY TURNER, Chester (where Michael Owen was born), ENGLAND (where Chester is).
