Keating, Rannow open strong at golf tourney
KLAMATH FALLS - Eugene's Mark Keating and Florence's Bob Rannow were each among the top 10 after the first round of the Northwest Open Invitational golf tournament at Running Y Ranch.
Keating had a score of 32 and Rannow had a 30 in Stableford scoring, in which double eagles are worth seven points, eagles are worth five, birdies are worth three, pars are worth one, bogeys are worth zero and double bogeys or worse are worth minus-one.
Jason Woods of Portland led with 34 points.
Denver setting pace at women's tournament
CORVALLIS - Denver held a 10-stroke lead over Long Beach State after Monday's first two rounds of the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational women's golf tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
Oregon State was tied for fourth place at 603, 17 strokes behind the leaders, and Oregon was ninth at 606.
Denver's Stephanie Sherlock led the individual race at 2-under-par 142 going into today's final round of the 54-hole event. Oregon State's Jillian Ferrante was tied for eighth at 147, and Oregon's Cathryn Bristow was tied for 15th at 150.
