SPORTS BETTING: THE GENIUS: Bookies are round the Bend.
Byline: John CurleI KNOW the usual incumbent on this page rarely mentions horse racing, but while he treats the moosus to a weekend in Cleethorpes (half-board) he's left me in charge, so I'll let you into a little secret:
Refuse To Bend will win the Vodafone Derby on June 7. He's still an unbelievable 7-2 with Ladbrokes to take the Epsom classic, despite winning the 2,000 Guineas last week.
Refuse To Bend is bred to perform over a mile-and-a-half, so to win the one-mile Guineas was a spectacular effort.
The reason he's still available at those odds is simple - he's trained by the unfashionable Dermot Weld instead of media darling Aiden O'Brien.
If O'Brien handled the unbeaten colt he would be a 6-4 chance for the Derby. Not for the first time the bookies are pricing up the trainer, not the horse. Bend is like Beckham - pure class. Don't miss out.
