SPLENDID CHINA OPENS IN FLORIDA; CHINESE THEMED ATTRACTION OFFERS VISITORS LOOK INSIDE CHINA

KISSIMMEE, Fla., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Splendid China, a 76-acre $100 million Chinese themed cultural attraction featuring more than 60 incredibly detailed replicas of China's most historic and renowned landmarks, opened to the public Sunday in near Orlando, Fla.
Attraction officials said more than 3,000 guests toured the park during its debut before visitors.
Earlier, in a colorful opening program featuring more than 100 native Chinese entertainers, Splendid China Chairman Ma Chi Man and other Chinese and American dignitaries jointly cut a ribbon formally opening the attraction.
From a half-mile long reproduction of the Great Wall to the swirling colors of native Chinese dancers, visitors got a first-hand look at the newest -- and perhaps most unusual -- attraction to open in Central Florida.
Splendid China, according to its operators, provides visitors an authentic look at China's most famous sites, live Chinese entertainment, Chinese dining and Chinese culture. For Americans visiting Splendid China, the attraction offers a glimpse of a nation and culture with which relatively few Americans are familiar.
Headlining the attractions at Splendid China are highly detailed reproductions of China's most well-known historical and cultural sites. The Great Wall replica is a half-mile long and is made from more than six million tiny bricks. A brooding Leshan Buddha reproduction stands three stories tall. The Forbidden City is huge, even in miniature, and covers almost a full city block in area.
Other displays include the Stone Forest, the underground terra cotta warrior army of Emperor Quin Shihuang, the mausoleum of Genghis Khan, the Potala Palace of Tibet and the statuary of the Longman Grottos.
The attraction's replicas are built in exacting, painstaking detail. They combine to reflect the ethnic diversity and history of China. Built by more than 150 native Chinese artisans and craftsmen, the replicas throughout Splendid China took two years to build.
Adding to the flavor of Splendid China is entertainment that includes Ansai drum dancing, fan dancing, Chinese martial arts, Mongolian wrestling, acrobats, folk costume shows and even climbers who scale a pole covered with knives. All performers are native Chinese who recreate traditional performances, some centuries old.
Dining at Splendid China features authentic Chinese cuisine in a myriad of ethnic culinary styles ranging from Cantonese and Szechuan to Mongolian and Mandarin.
Splendid China is located 12 miles southwest of Orlando, Fla., and only two miles from Walt Disney World. The attraction is open daily.
