 SPINNAKER TAKES LEAD IN SMALL BUSINESS WINDOWS MARKET;
 UNIT SHIPMENTS OF PFS:WINDOWWORKS SURPASS HALF-MILLION MARK
 BOSTON, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Spinnaker Software Corporation (NASDAQ: SPKR) today announced its Windows-based software products have made significant inroads into the small business market.
 Speaking at Spinnaker Days, an annual corporate showcase for the company's new and existing software products, Spinnaker Chairman and Chief Executive Officer C. David Seuss said that, "For the small business and home office computer user, Windows is rapidly becoming the interface of choice, and Spinnaker the software provider of choice." As proof he cited the half-million-plus shipments to date of Spinnaker's popular PFS:WindowWorks(tm) integrated software package for Windows to their primary customer base of small business computer users.
 "Some people in our industry have claimed that Windows would not penetrate the small business market early on," said Seuss. "We are here to explode that myth. BIS Strategic Decisions recently estimated that the number of personal computers in small businesses grew from 11.4 million units in 1990 to over 15 million in 1991. That's almost a 40 percent increase, and BIS projects the total to exceed 25 million units by 1995. We estimate that in 1990 Windows was adopted by one third of the small business computer market, and that by 1995, Windows will be installed on 95 percent of all small business computers. It's clear that the installed base of PC's is far from saturating the potential market and has considerable room to grow."
 Seuss also challenged the notion that small business computer users are primarily novices, beginners, or entry-level customers. "We have spent considerable time and energy studying the small business computer user, who is our major customer. Our research indicates that, far from being novices, the typical small business computer users have an average of five years of business computing experience apiece, are on their second computer, and in fact operate a powerful 386-level machine. These people are simultaneously the evaluators, purchasers, trainers, and end-users in their businesses. They are vitally interested in adopting new technologies that provide obvious, pragmatic, value to their small businesses."
 Seuss made his comments during the formal introduction of eight new software products from Spinnaker, hailed by Cindy Sweetser, vice president of marketing for Spinnaker's PFS: software division, as "Our most ambitious product offering ever." The products include: PFS:Publisher for Windows, a $149 desktop publisher that sets new standards in desktop publishing power and usability for the small business and home office market, (recently termed "A knockout desktop publisher" by PC/Computing magazine); PFS:Business Plan, a complete Windows-based program for producing high-quality business plans; and PFS:Prospect, a DOS-based program that helps small businesses manage sales prospects and develop their customer bases.
 Also among the new announcements are five unique titles in the new "Easy Working for Windows" series, all retailing for under $60. These include: Eight-in-One(tm) for Windows, a powerful Windows integrated package; the Easy Working(tm) Word Processor; the Easy Working(tm) Desktop Publisher; the Easy Working(tm) Mail Manager; and Easy Working(tm) Business Letters.
 PFS:WindowWorks, which began shipping in mid-1991, has garnered enthusiastic comments from the press. PC World recently concluded that "PFS:WindowWorks exceeds (Microsoft's Works for Windows) with the impressive text handling and formatting capabilities of its word processor, which are similar to those found in desktop publishing programs." PC Week said that PFS:WindowWorks "is an intuitive set of applications that fully exploit Window's graphical potential." InfoWorld added that "If your goal is a great looking product, then PFS:WindowWorks holds the edge."
 PFS:WindowWorks has also been widely adopted as a strategic application for new Windows-ready PCs. It is currently bundled on computers manufactured by Packard Bell, Zenith, Philips, Acer, Syntax, Fountain Technologies, V-Tech, Aquarius, DTK, and IMSI.
