 MAJOR NEW UPGRADE ADDS SIGNIFICANT FUNCTIONALITY
 BOSTON, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Spinnaker Software Corporation (NASDAQ: SPKR) today announced PFS:First Choice(R) 4.0, a major new version of its popular DOS-based integrated software program featuring a true WYSIWYG word processor, an all-new spreadsheet module, enhance database, presentation graphics module, and communications module (terminal). PFS:First Choice 4.0 will be available this Fall.

This is our first upgrade to PFS:First Choice since we acquired the line from Software Publishing Corporation," said Cindy Sweetser, vice president of marketing for Spinnaker's PFS: software division. "Release 4.0 contains the kind of features unheard of in a DOS-based program just a few years ago, such as a full WYSIWYG word processor and scalable fonts. This wealth of new features was inspired by feedback from our small business and home office users, and will consolidate PFS:First Choice's position as the undisputed champion of DOS integrated software programs." What's New In PFS:First Choice 4.0:
 Highlights of the new features in PFS:First Choice 4.0 include true WYSIWYG support in the world processor module to let users edit documents in actual, reduced, or enlarged size, and see them on-screen exactly as they will print. PFS:First Choice now supports multiple typestyles simultaneously (for example, bold and underlined text in the same document). In addition of PFS:First Choice's existing support for the ASCII, WordPerfect, and Microsoft Word 3.0 through 5.0 conversion formats for both text and WYSIWYG modes, the program now also supports Microsoft RTF (Rich Text Format) and Microsoft Works (DOS) (import only; via RTF). PFS:First Choice Release 4.0 also features the Houghton Mifflin Spell Checker, Thesaurus, and Grammar Checker, which together allow PFS:First Choice to automatically proofread documents for mistakes in grammar, style, usage, punctuation, and spelling.
 The PFS:First Choice Release 4.0 word processor now gives users the ability to choose from over 30 different typefaces scalable from 4 to 72 points. Other new word processing features include: the addition of headers and footers; search and replace; landscape printing; and the ability to switch between text mode and WYSIWYG mode.
 The Release 4.0 spreadsheet module now lets users define individual column widths. In addition, row and column labels now conform to the industry standard of numbers of rows and letters for columns. Other new spreadsheet features include the ability to choose from 30 different typefaces when previewing and printing spreadsheets, and the ability to hide columns. As before, the spreadsheet can read and write Lotus 1-2- 3.WK1 file formats.
 The database module now lets users sort on up to three fields and choose from 30 typefaces when previewing and printing. The PFS:First Choice database is now compatible with dBase version 2,3,4 and 5 files. Detailed Features of PFS:First Choice
 The PFS:First Choice word processor module includes full WYSIWYG support to let users edit documents in actual, reduced, or enlarged size, and see them on-screen exactly as they will print. PFS:First Choice supports multiple typestyles simultaneously, such as bold and underlined in the same documents, and offers the following additional features: the ability to change margin and tab settings in different parts of a document; mail merge to personalize from letters using information from the database module; Houghton Mifflin Spell Check, Grammar Checker, and Thesaurus; and the ability to paste other documents, graphs, spreadsheets, or tabular reports into a printed document.
 The spreadsheet module features over 70 keywords, including financial, statistical, mathematical, logical, date, time, string, and conversion functions. Users can copy a table view from a database to a spreadsheet, and create often-used headings and copy cell data automatically using the to choose from 30 different typefaces when previewing a printing spreadsheets, and the ability to hide columns. Row and column labels conform to the industry standard of numbers for rows and letters for columns.
 The database module lets users view many records simultaneously in table view and see field data types to verify data and speed searching and sorting. The built-in form programming lets users calculate fields to simplify data entry. The database features "elastic" fields, which are expandable; forms are customizable. Users can search for records using exact, partial, or range search instructions, sort on up to three fields and choose from 30 typefaces when previewing and printing. The database is compatible with dBase version 2,3,4, and 5 files.
 The presentation graphics module lets users create text charts in a number of different formats, including: pie, bar, line, area, high-low-close, and combination graphs. PFS:First Choice lets users create high-resolution output using laser printers as well as a myriad of dot matrix printers and plotters.
 The communications module lets PFS:First Choice automatically dial phone numbers in the database and emulate a VT-100 or VT-52 terminal.
 Other general features of the program include: a fresh new interface throughout the product; the ability to use DOS commands without exiting from PFS:First Choice, and to add up to five programs or macros to the main menu; a built-in on-screen calculator; a macro capability to let users save keystrokes; and the ability to cut and paste data between PFS:First Choice modules. PFS:First Choice Release 4.0 supports ASCII, WordPerfect, Microsoft Word 3.0 through 5.0, Microsoft RTF (Rich Text Format) and Microsoft Works (DOS) (import only; export via RTF), conversion formats for both text and WYSIWYG modes. Hardware Requirements
 PFS: First Choice runs on the IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/1, PS/2, and other 100 percent IBM compatible desktop portable, and laptop computers. Minimum hardware includes 640K of RAM using DOS 2.1 or above, with one 3.5" disk drive and RAM disk; or two 3.5" or 5.25" double-sided floppy disk drives; or a hard disk and one floppy drive. The product supports Intel math coprocessors, and can be used with a mouse from: Logictech, Microsoft, or PC Mouse systems.
