SPECTRUM SIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH IBM; SPECTRUM'S AXCELL CELLULAR DATA INTERFACE TECHNOLOGY EARNS IBM THINKPAD PROVEN EMBLEM

 MANHASSET, N.Y., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Information Technologies, Inc. (Spectrum) (NASDAQ-NMS: SPCL), Manhasset, announced today the conclusion of a licensing and marketing agreement with International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) (NYSE: IBM).
 Under the agreement, IBM has granted Spectrum the right to identify its Axcell(R) cellular data interface as an IBM THINKPAD PROVEN(A) periphoral. The IBM THINKPAD PROVEN emblem signifies that Spectrum's Axcell meets rigorous peripheral product and service standards set by IBM.
 In addition to licensing, IBM will assist Spectrum in marketing the Axcell with IBM THINKPAD(TM) notebook computers.
 Spectrum's patented cellular data communications technology will also be featured in other IBM THINKPAD PROVEN products by Megahertz and Apex Data who license modem technology from Spectrum.
 The patented Axcell interface is a compact, portable device which allows laptop, notebook and palmtop portable computers equipped with a modem to send or receive data over a cellular telephone.
 With the Axcell interface technology, IBM's THINKPAD will now be able to transmit and receive data wirelessly, which will enhance the THINKPAD's function as a mobile workstation.
