 SPECTRUM SIGNAL PROCESSING REPORTS RECORD ORDERS
 AND SALES FOR THIRD QUARTER
 BURNABY, British Columbia, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (AMEX: SNL.EC; Vancouver: SSY) today reported preliminary results for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992. The company expects record quarterly sales of approximately $2,120,000 (CDN) up 45 percent from $1,460,000 for the third quarter of 1991.
 The company also booked record orders for the three months ended Sept. 30, 1992 of $2.9 million (CDN) compared to third quarter 1991 orders of $2.1 million, an increase of 38 percent. Significant OEM orders included a $610,000 order from MacDonald Dettwiler and Raytheon for a space-based radar demonstrator system, and a $270,000 contract with OAR Corp. for a radio direction finding application.
 Final sales and net operating results will be reported by the end of October.
 Barry Jinks, Spectrum's president & chief executive officer said, "Spectrum added new OEM customers during the third quarter and renewed agreements with several existing OEM clients. This clearly demonstrates the company's ability to attract and retain a growing number of OEM customers, adding to a stable base of recurring revenue."
 The company significantly expanded its sales network during the third quarter. Spectrum established a sales office in Mountain View, Calif., which will be responsible for developing major OEM accounts in the Western U.S. market as well as offering better post-sales support to existing customers.
 Spectrum also signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Allan Crawford Associates Ltd. one of Canada's premier independent suppliers of high-technology products. The agreement calls for Allan Crawford, through its national network of sales offices, to sell Spectrum's entire line of off-the-shelf solutions, including DSP hardware for the PC, VME and SBus environments.
 Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. is focused on the application of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), a technology that promises to be one of the fastest growing of the 1990s. The company supplies the widest range of DSP development systems and embedded systems which include computer boards, chips, modules and DSP application software.
 Applications of Spectrum's products include digital cellular, digital audio, medical diagnostics, radar, sonar, defense communications and surveillance, and many industrial uses ranging from the design of more efficient automobile engines to advanced well monitoring techniques for the oil and gas industry.
 Spectrum's customers are principally in the United States, and include "Fortune 1000" companies, research establishments as well as many agencies within the U.S. Government and the Department of Defense. In addition to its Vancouver-based engineering and marketing organization, Spectrum maintains U.S. sales facilities at Westborough, Mass. and Mountain View. The company is publicly traded on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol SNL.EC and the Vancouver Stock Exchange under the symbol SSY.
