SPECTRUM INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH NEC AMERICA TO PRODUCE NEC AXCELL(TM) CELLULAR INTERFACE

MANHASSET, N.Y., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Information Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: SPCL) ("Spectrum"), today announced introduction of its newest version AXCELL(TM) product for use with NEC America, Inc.'s (NEC) complete line of portable handheld cellular telephones. The product is the second to be developed by Spectrum under contract to NEC and will be labeled and sold by NEC as the INT 4000 Data Interface. Spectrum will also offer the product for sale to its fortune 2000 customers under the trademark "AXCELL(TM)" product name.
NEC's portable cellular telephones have been one of the industry's leading product lines for America's field personnel. The new AXCELL will be compatible with NEC's current full line of portable handheld cellular phones, including the new P100 series and the P400/600 and P200/300 versions of portables. Thus, by combining the AXCELL with any of NEC's portable phones, users will have portable fax or computer data communications capabilities wherever cellular service is available. Both the Spectrum AXCELL and NEC INT 4000 Data Interface are expected to be available at a suggested retail price of $395.00 beginning in late summer.
This is the fifth of similar such OEM product development agreements Spectrum has executed since the introduction of its AXCELL product last year. NEC joins AT&T, Ericsson GE, Fujitsu Network Transmission Systems, Inc. and Audiovox Corp., each of which also offer versions of Spectrum's AXCELL sold under their individual private labels. In an award ceremony at the United Nations building in New York earlier this month, Spectrum was presented the Gold Circle award by Mobile Office Magazine, for its product innovation in the area of mobile cellular data communications technology.
Spectrum Information Technologies, Inc. is headquartered in Manhasset, N.Y., with facilities nationwide. Spectrum develops and licenses wireless data transmission technologies and designs, markets and services mobile communications and computing systems as a systems integrator.
