SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASES AT WINTER CES; CHESS SPOOF, NBA BASKETBALL AND CD-ROM GAME TOP LIST

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading interactive-entertainment developer/publisher Spectrum HoloByte is taking the opportunity of the Winter 1993 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to announce its hot new products for first quarter 1993. The company will be demonstrating these titles at one of three areas of the Las Vegas Convention Center. In the South Annex, Spectrum HoloByte will be found at the SPA Booth No. 6205 and meeting room No. M6365. In the Nintendo building, the company will be showing product at booth No. 6999.
National Lampoon's ChessMeister 5 Billion and 1(TM) is an uproariously funny, sometimes irreverent, spoof of current computer chess games. The game will include live-action VGA graphics and a strong chess engine. ChessMeister is scheduled for a March release for IBM compatibles.
David Robinson, NBA Action(TM), developed by Sega of America, is probably the most complete basketball simulation ever produced. The game features full NBA team rosters and logos for ultra-realistic basketball action. An April release is scheduled for IBM compatibles.
Tornado(TM) is a flight simulation that rivals the depth and sophistication of Spectrum HoloByte's top-selling Falcon 3.0. Thrill to the heart-thumping excitement of this famous European fighter jet. Tornado is scheduled for March for IBM compatibles.
Marketing its debut into the growing CD-ROM market, Spectrum HoloByte, in conjunction with Drew Pictures, is readying release of The Iron Helix(TM). An action-adventure set in a far-off future, The Iron Helix presents hundreds of photorealistic, smooth-motion images rendered in stunning 3-D. Look for a March release on Macintosh CD-ROM-based systems; an IBM CD-ROM version is scheduled for May.
In addition, Spectrum HoloByte has some special surprises in store for show-goers:
Enjoy a sneak peak at the Super Nintendo version of Star Trek(R): the Next Generation(TM), where Spectrum HoloByte boldly goes where no one ... well, you get the picture. An October release is expected for this game.
On Friday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m., members of the press are invited to stop by the Spectrum HoloByte meeting room No. 6365 for a special ChessMeister reception. Meet special guest Jim Jamaro, president of National Lampoon.
William Figueroa, national spokesman for Wordtris, the Tetris- inspired word game, will be on hand at Spectrum HoloByte's Nintendo booth to promote the game. Figueroa made headlines last June when he and Vice President Quayle struggled over the proper spelling of the word "potato."
Spectrum HoloByte Inc. is a leading developer of interactive computer entertainment based in Alameda, Calif. The company counts Tetris, the famous game of falling blocks and Falcon 3.0, the premier F-16 jet fighter simulation, among its many top-quality offerings. Traditionally a publisher of games for personal computers, Spectrum HoloByte recently entered the video game market with Wordtris for the Super Nintendo and Game Boy game systems. The company is privately held.
